The koi pond is also for "oxygenation".

In koi farming, the concentration of oxygen can directly affect the growth of koi, today we will discuss the effect of oxygen concentration on koi in koi farming.

Koi excreta and feed residues are a serious source of pollution in koi pond water, so any fish pond must have a filtration system, which can be either a filtration pond or an integrated fish pond filter (we recommend the fish pond filters of Ollies International GmbH, Germany, for their reasonable price and good quality and effect).

The basic construction of a koi pond filtration system is a circulation pump, piping and filter material (or pond filter). The water that is pumped into the filtration tank through the circulation pump has a lot of koi feces and feed residues, which will be attached to the filter material after filtration. A truly environmentally friendly and natural filter material is host to many beneficial microorganisms, which decompose (eat) the debris. (The microorganisms referred to here are not bacteria, but protozoa such as lacewings and rotifers).

When viewed under a microscope, these wonderfully shaped protozoa eat the koi feces and feed residues that adhere to the filter material. So the filtration system won't clog as easily.

Microorganisms absorb oxygen from the water just like koi

The use of microorganisms to clean water by eating away pollutants (mainly organic matter) is called"biofiltration"There is a strong relationship between oxygen and biofiltration: in biofiltration microorganisms absorb oxygen and survive. When the concentration of dissolved oxygen in the water decreases, the microorganisms cannot reproduce and their number decreases abruptly. As a result, the biological filtration cannot function properly and the water quality deteriorates.

Specifically, in a short period of time, pollutants such as fish waste will adhere to the filter media that is easily clogged, and then microorganisms will multiply rapidly and eat the pollutants. However, when the microorganisms multiply, the amount of oxygen consumption also increases, and if oxygen is not fed into the filter media, the microorganisms die suddenly due to lack of oxygen. Oxygen is fed into the filter media in the sense that water flow is formed in the filter media. If the filter media is easily clogged, the flow of water is not sufficiently spread to all parts of the filter media, so the microorganisms suffer from lack of oxygen, and the microorganisms are unable to reproduce, and a strange odor (sludge odor) occurs in the filtration tank.

Therefore, to judge the performance of the filtration system, its filtering area is certainly important, but its filtration function whether the normal operation of the reference oxygen can be fully supplied to the various parts of the filter media to improve the activity of microorganisms.Oxygenation inside the filtration system is sufficient for the microorganisms attached to the filtration material to continue to multiply, reducing hypoxia in the koi, and keeping the water in the koi pond clean and clear.
